Lessons on Life – Jim Rohn

Found an old video on some of my favorite Jim Rohn quotes. This guy has turned my philosophy of personal development on its head. I’ll always be indebted to him for his teachings and values that have been brought into my life although I’ve never met him.

The video clip is less than 3 minutes long. It contains just a few of his profound quotes. Enjoy and learn something from the master.

Unexpected Problems = Unscheduled Practice

We all face adversities in life we do not expect, “accidents” that throw us off our track. We can choose to view them as obstacles that prevent us from getting what we want or we can choose to ‘reframe’ and view them quite differently.

In the film Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne deliberately got himself thrown into a prison to fight criminals behind locked doors. There were many quotable lines in the film, but there’s one part I really liked that inspired me immensely.

Saving The World? Save Yourself First!

I used to say, “If you will take care of me, I will take care of you.” Now I say, “I will take care of me for you, if you will take care of you for me”. ~ Jim Rohn

Whenever the flight attendants brief the onflight safety procedures, the first thing they’d say is to first put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping the people you’re sitting with. It doesn’t matter if the person next to you is your suffocating spouse or child, you’ve gotta take the oxygen mask for yourself first. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on the air, land or underwater, you must always take care of yourself first.

Save yourself first

You're not a superhero, you need oxygen.

Process vs Result

Here’s a thought and question to ponder, to feed your mind. Recently I saw a post on Facebook asking public opinions on which is more important for performance: Process or Result?

Naturally, a question like this will draw attention to vote for one or the other. When I paused and pondered on the question for a while, I thought that both process and result are very much inseparable. The question shouldn’t be which is more important, it should be which is more important to focus on? I also thought that result is the outcome of doing the right processes well. I joined the discussion and gave my two cents by commenting:

Results will take care of themselves when the right processes are done rightly. Here’s a Jim Rohn quote, “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.”

After giving it more thought I’m convinced that focusing on processes is THE KEY to peak performance. In this blog post, I’ll elaborate more by using an example from my peak performance experience.

Where to Buy E-Books? I’m Giving Out Free Audio Book And Other Freebies!

To follow up on my previous post on e-books, here are my favorite sites where I’d normally purchase them.

where to buy e-books

eReader.com was the first site that I bought my e-books when I was still using a Palm device. Being a Barnes & Noble company, their ereader software can also be used on devices running Windows, Windows Mobile, iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad, Mac, Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Linux platform. You only need to buy the books once and you can read the same title from any device.

Beside the interoperability, they also offer credit points each time you make a purchase. The credit points act like rebates to deduct from future purchases. Every now and them, they offer huge discounts and seasonal clearances. You can always hunt for many free or cheap ebooks under “Free ebooks” and “Cheap ebooks” categories found at their site.
