The TEFCAS Success Formula

Have you failed many times in life? Do you know that failure can actually be a very good thing? Failure is actually an integral part of learning and growth. In fact, I like the saying in NLP that ‘there’s no such thing as failure, only feedback’.

no such thing as failure

Failure = Feedback

I first came across the TEFCAS Success Formula from one of Tony Buzan’s mind-mapping books. Once you understand the TEFCAS formula, you’ll realize that it’s actually our natural way of learning and getting better in whatever areas that we want to master. Many things that we’ve learned in life were mastered through failures, we weren’t born with those skills eg. riding a bike, playing sports, even walking.

The Power of Identity (Part 2) – What’s Your Story?

In Part 1, I wrote about the story of the sheep-lion who experienced a profound paradigm shift after he discovered who he really was. A paradigm shift is like exchanging an old, outdated map for a new, accurate one. It’s like a sudden “revelation”, and finally the fogginess disappears and the blur turns into clarity for you.

Have you discovered who you are? How would you redefine your self-identity and rewrite your story to get to where you want to go?

The Power of Identity (Part 1)

In my previous post “Who You Choose To Be?”, I wrote that Po, the main hero in Kung Fu Panda 2, needed a shift at his self-identity before his total transformation of “awesomeness” was complete.

It’s the same with us. Our true potential can only be realized and real lasting change takes place when we do not just make a change at the cognitive, emotional or behavioral level, but all the way at the self-identity level. It’s like a paradigm shift.

What’s a paradigm shift? There are quite a number of explanations, but the one I like best is like this: Imagine you’re given a map to travel a long distance from point A to B. You can make changes and improvements along your journey in many ways: You can walk faster, you can run, you can take fewer breaks and rests in between, or you can hire a vehicle. You can work harder and smarter, but none of these is as big a change as a paradigm shift. A paradigm shift is like exchanging an old (wrong) map with a new (accurate) one.

A paradigm shift changes everything. A change at the level of self-identity is like that.

Boost Your Confidence by Asking Empowering Questions

We all have ample of self-confidence within at all times, but we may not feel it all the time. Surely you can think of instances in the past when you had personal power and felt immensely confident. The key is to be able to summon the necessary confidence whenever you want it.

Whenever you’re hesitant ask yourself this, “What is stopping me from having or doing what I want?” This question will shift your frame of mind, internal dialogue and change your internal state into a more confident state.

Process vs Result

Here’s a thought and question to ponder, to feed your mind. Recently I saw a post on Facebook asking public opinions on which is more important for performance: Process or Result?

Naturally, a question like this will draw attention to vote for one or the other. When I paused and pondered on the question for a while, I thought that both process and result are very much inseparable. The question shouldn’t be which is more important, it should be which is more important to focus on? I also thought that result is the outcome of doing the right processes well. I joined the discussion and gave my two cents by commenting:

Results will take care of themselves when the right processes are done rightly. Here’s a Jim Rohn quote, “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day.”

After giving it more thought I’m convinced that focusing on processes is THE KEY to peak performance. In this blog post, I’ll elaborate more by using an example from my peak performance experience.
