Dying A Little Each Day

As the world is still mourning the passing of Steve Jobs, I began to read about the quotes and wise words this truly remarkable man spoke towards the end of his life. At the end of the day, what truly mattered to this great American visionary wasn’t the billions he’d made, the innovations he’d brought to the marketplace nor the great company he’d built to this day. What truly mattered to him is found in these two quotes:

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important thing I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” ~ Steve Jobs

9 Powerful Questions To Get What You Want

Here are 9 (and a bonus) powerful, coaching questions you can use in your journey of personal development to get what you want in any area of your life:

1. What do you want?

Nothing is more important and straightforward than this fundamental question. What do you want in your life? Many adults whom I’ve asked this question often take a long time on this. However, they have no problem telling me what they do not want through many life experiences and pains they’ve gone through. On the other hand, when this question is presented to little children, their face would instantly beamed up and they do not hesitate to make known what they want, loud and clear, and repeatedly. Unlike grown ups, their clarity are not dulled by past disappointments and failures.

By looking at the wheel of life, identify and write down what do you want in each area of your life. You can choose one obvious area for improvement, for a start. If you do not know, ask yourself this “What if I do know? What if I have childlike faith, what do I want?”

Your 2 Great Pains In Life

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons.” ~ Jim Rohn

Following on my previous post on The 2 Great Teachers, there are also 2 great pains in life. One is SELF-DISCIPLINE, and the other is REGRET. Both pains are something we do not wish to experience and you’d want to avoid them if possible, but like the two great teachers, you have a choice to make. If you do not make a choice, the default pain which will be chosen for you is REGRET.

What are the differences between these two pains, and which is better for you and for me?

Your 2 Greatest Teachers In Life

There are, really, only two great teachers in your life. First, is WISDOM. The other is CONSEQUENCE. Neither of them come cheap, but we can learn a great deal from both.

While WISDOM can delight and amaze us, CONSEQUENCE can leave us breathless, but usually not in a good way. We can have either WISDOM or CONSEQUENCE as our teacher at any one time, not both. If we do not choose WISDOM, CONSEQUENCE will be chosen for us by default, and it is by far the tougher of the two, and much costlier.

Now, what are the differences between the two great teachers?

The Price Of The Two Teachers

WISDOM teaches us the lessons before we make a mistake. He shows us the mistakes of others who had walked down the paths we’re walking. He warns us where there are dangers ahead. We may not like it but he protects us from harm.

On the other hand, CONSEQUENCE demands our mistakes before he gives us his lessons. And when we do make mistakes, then we’d learned our lessons. Yes, we need to pay a steep price to learn from this teacher. His teachings ring loud and clear, and you’ll not miss the learning, only after you’ve been hurt!

Make no mistake about it, both are extremely effective teachers. Choose this day, which will be your teacher. I’ve learned from CONSEQUENCE that WISDOM is the better teacher for me in the long run. I just cannot afford to pay CONSEQUENCE tuition fees too many times!

As you walk down your journey of continual life-learning, choose wisely who would be your great teacher.

Choosing The Path of Personal Power (Part 4) – “Who You Choose To be?”

I watched Kung Fu Panda 2 earlier this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the midst fun-filled, fast-paced action animation, there are heart-warming lessons to inspire both children and adults alike too.

At the start of Kung Fu Panda 2, Po was living his dream of fighting alongside the famous Furious Five, legendary kung fu masters. As the The Dragon Warrior, Po was protecting the Valley of Peace daily against the bad guys. But Po’s new life of awesomeness was threatened by the emergence of a new formidable villain, who planned to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy kung fu forever. Po must look to his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then would he be able to unlock the strength he needs to succeed. Ultimately, Po had to deal with his self-identity, and the person who he’d choose to be.
